The golf dog
Image via Wikipedia
A man and his friend meet at the club house, pick up their adams golf irons and decide to play a round of golf together. The man has a little dog with him and on the first green, when the man holes out a 20 foot putt, the little dog starts to yip and stands up on its hind legs. The friend is quite amazed at this clever trick and says, "That dog is really talented! What does he do if you miss a putt?"
"Somersaults," says the man.
"Somersaults?!" says the friend, "That's incredible. How many does he do?"
"Hmmm," says the man. "That depends on how hard I kick him in the ass."
Toilet Paper isn't recession proof
I just read am interesting post how even toilet paper isn't immune to recessionary forces. The post stems from the fact that toilet paper sales are down around 5% from the previous quarter. I don't think that due to people NOT USING it, more around people buying in bulk and opting for the cheaper type.
Interesting post I thought and one that gets you thinking. You may think that the recession won't effect you, but in some shape or form it will. Whether it means eating out less, putting off buying your NFL jerseys till next year, or choosing a cheaper brand of that essential loo roll, it's going to effect you in some shape or form.

Izea drops cost of sponsored post to $1
(My Original Blog Post: -*http://www.u-g-h.com/2009/01/15/izea-drops-cost-of-sponsored-post-to-1/)
Just received an interesting email from Izea:
That's a pretty interesting development which is being pushed out till the end of the month allowing Izea to test the water with this "micro-payperpost" idea. My biggest concern is that this will affect the quality of the blogging network as it minimises the amount of effort people put into posting. On a positive note, it might also encourage new advertisers to try the medium out.
I'll be interested to see the results of this experiment
Just received an interesting email from Izea:
As you know we recently made some changes to the PayPerPost platform. While the feedback regarding our interface refinement has been great, we have also received some concerns relating to our pricing adjustments. I am sensitive to your pricing feedback and would like to try a new model for a limited time. My hope is that we will find a balance that works financially for advertisers, bloggers and IZEA. With that in mind, we have made the following changes:
- Minimum total cost per post reduced to $1.00
- Minimum word count reduced to 25 words with a link only option

So long .. and thanks for all the Sprouts
I received an email today from Sprout, a website which lets you create interactive Flash widgets which you can share with others on the web, place on your website and distribute on any other medium that supports Flash. Here's something I had created a while back:
The email advised me that Sprout had closed off the ability to produce free Sprouts and launched tiered pricing ranging from $140 a year to $3000 a year, depending on the number of projects, storage and support options people require. The Basic service lets you produce up to 3 Sprouts but is only available to current users.
Now, I'll be the first to insist that a company has a pricing strategy which can guarantee growth and sustainability, especially in today's harsh climate. However, it's always worth bearing in mind that free advertising can be valuable, as it taps into hobbyists and people experimenting with the medium. I have a friend who's heavily into sports attire and I'm sure he's geeky enough to try and put together a Sprout about NFL jerseys if he had the time and knew about the service.
I believe Sprout are making a mistake but not allowing a free aspect to their service. Even if it's time-bound, it allows people to play with their technology, evangelise about their services and draw in more paying customers.

Great talk today
We had a great talk today at the BCS, about coding, unit testing and different design methodologies. It was interesting enough to with I had access to live video streaming services, so that I could get a better audience, but it was a great success anyway.
I'm on the lookout for what out next talk will be, but my mate Derek may hold the key to one further on this year, as he's an avid podcaster and that might make for a great talk.
